Landscape Development 2

The concept of the connections stills intact in the way that I found a better form to distribute and forms of spaces in the site. The four main existing path still connect to my site, and they found a form to influence the new paths to maintain a well circulation outside and inside the site and the buildings. It seems to be that the circulation is smoother for the pedestrians and adjacent building, either way they all are connected besides the ones in the site.

The site it self has two crucial elements that definitely influences in the developments of paths, angles and spaces in the site. There is a natural grid of trees which are approximately 15 to 20 feet apart from one another. The grid helped me to create few angles and spaces that could flow better and also conserve part of it and adding few more trees. The other element is the synthetic field where plethora of activities happen as well.

What I did with this element was instead of having something to block and separate my site and the other part of the park I moved the buildings and created a more open space to allow view connection to the rest of the park. I also created a reflective pool in which the reflection of the buildings and the park can be seen from different angles.

Something else to appreciate from the site is the different elevations I manege to create depending the angle of every building into of out of the land.

Landscape Development

Something that plays a crucial part of my site is the landscape and the connection of the buildings with the surroundings. Which leads me to the conclusion of being able to access any part of my Community Center from mostly any part of the park. The paths towards every single entry of the building are specially made to fallow the angle, direction in which the buildings are facing.

Another thing to play around with, is the different elevations that the vertical angle of the structure is creating. Ramps could go into the ground or a couple of feet up too creating a variety of ramps with distant lengths and dimensions.

Programmatic Study & Development

The building has developed into different parts instead of being just one single structure. This represents that the structure is expanding in all ways instead just vertically and one direction. Although, the path will keep having this huge impact on the structure and making the biggest connection for the Community Center. People will have the opportunity to go directly to the building they are looking for and either way if they decide to move around the path is an atrium so they can be protected from the elements.

Massing Development & Model

The way my building is developing is by having two different paths create the inside and exterior outcome. There will be an inside path crossing through the building in which will be the strongest concept that connects the building with the neightborhood. The path will be most likely represented and a knife and butter. The knife is cutting the butter creating a clean cut and splitting the butter in two parth. The path will be doing this to the structure. However, the building still will be imaginarily connected. Few parts will be out of the path but will still make part of the structure.

Hybrid Study Model

My hybrid model represents the combination between one models from my strand collage and one from my program collage. One is the spiral which represents the combination and projection of cultures towards one place and the staking books is the other rmodel that can be put in any order. This hybrid model tries to represent the combination of both of them with a smooth rotation on the books and at the same time the projection on how is located towards the neighborhood.

Concept Development

For this assignment, we were supposed to come out with our own representations of  certain impressions or experiences we had have while working on the project. In order to illustrate this ideas, we had to came out with 3 different collages. Each representing one part which are: Site, the word "Strand" and last but not least the program of our project.

Site Collage:

When I was in my site, one of the things I noticed right away is that all the trees are array sort of in a line formation one after the other at the same distance. They all look the same too which brings the idea of a path surrounded by trees that is leading somewhere represented on the walls of the tunnel. The tunnel is the whole Brooklyn Strand and the trees path on the wall is my site. My site is encouraging and leading people to follow the pointed direction towards the Brooklyn Bridge and the amazing views of the piers.

The Strand Collage:

The meaning of the word strand is a single thin length off something such as thread, fiber, or wire, especially as twisted together with others. My interpretation of this word, is based on the connection that makes you think of a rope, how is being tied and twist and perhaps connected with other rope. This pictures represent the diversity of cultures of the world and how as well even though there are plethora of places, they all point to one direction one place.

Program Collage:

For this project, I mostly want to create a place for the children and family of the community, where they could have an educational environment as well recreational and creative. A place they can relate and create art and crafts and built a bond with books and their parents.

Building Typologies

For this project  my building typology is about a community center for the people residing around Brooklyn Heights and Downtown Brooklyn.

Clayton Community Center

Based on the research and the site analysis I have done for 175 Cadman Plaza Park, a community center it would be a good idea for the people in the neighborhood because there are a lot of families and young people as well that live around the park. They could benefit from this due to there are no place for the people to gather. While I was analyzing the site I did noticed that plenty of people usually met their to talk, walk around a little bit, exorcise, play with their pets and sports as well.

Nieuwegein City Hall and Cultural Center

Community Centers help bring a sociable environment in every place, specially it will do more for this neighborhood. For this building it type might be a about arts and crafts, educational and as well recreational for the children and parents in the community and surroundings.

Some examples of this typologies are:

-Clayton Community Center
        Location: Clayton, Victoria, Australia
        Architect: Jackson Architecture
-Nieuwegein City Hall and Cultural Center
        Location: Nieuwegein, Paises Bajos
        Architect: 3XN
-Zamet Centre
        Location: Rijeka, Croatia
        Architect: 3LHD
-The Lavezzorio Community Center
        Location: Chicago, USA
        Architect: Studio Gang Architects
-Surry Hills Library and Community Center
Location: 405 Crown St, Surry Hills
        Architect: Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp
-Largo Community Center
        Location: Largo, Florida
        Architect: Wannemacher Jenser Architects
-West Vancouver Community Centre/HCMA
        Location: West Vancouver, Canada
        Architect: Hughes Condon Marler Architects
-Newlands Community Centre
        Location: Newlands, Wellington
        Architect: CCM Architects
-Cultural Center in Nevers
        Location: Nevers, France
        Architect: Ateliers O-S architects
-Palo Verde Library and Maryvale Community Center
        Location: Phoenix, Arizona
        Architect: Gould Evans

My goals i'm trying to accomplish with this building typology is to actually bring closer the community to one physical place, where they actually have the resources to be with family and friends. A place where they can interact, learn and create stuff together. The site it helps as well because it is very central and around the neighborhood there are not places like this.

For this to happen the building it self would need:
-Auditorium or Small Exhibition area
-Library
-Classrooms
-Arts and Crafts Room
-Gymnasium
-Daycare
-Lobby
-Storage
-Mechanical Room
-Offices
-Bathrooms
-Janitor Room
